Description

Scientific Research Centre Bistra Ptuj is the first officially registered interdisciplinary research institution in Slovenia. It was developed out of the Bureau for strategic technological development (the abbreviation BISTRA), which was established in 1994 to cover the needs for planning and managing the development of the local community and the region. One of its basic tasks is the connection and transfer of knowledge from universities and institutes into the economy and small enterprises as well as cooperation in creating development ideas of enterprises and their transfer into research institutions. The institution was established by the former Municipality of Ptuj and is cofinanced by the Slovene Ministry of Science and Technology. Our own institutional development and the needs of the area led to the creation of new research fields, particularly in the humanistic and social science. Our endeavour was supported by Scientific research centre at the Slovene Academy of Sciences and Arts, who was a co-founder of the new institution. In 1998, after supplementing the activities in the fields of humanities and social studies, our name changed as well. Today, Scientific research centre Bistra Ptuj (the abbreviation SRC BISTRA PTUJ) is an institution for interdisciplinary research and development. The results of our work are directed to the creation of development vision and strategy of the local community and the establishment of its national and international position. Our work, connected with research, experimental development, consulting and educating, is designed for the applied research projects, commissioned by various customers both home and abroad. Our research development projects aspire to connect natural, technical, humanistic, social sciences and arts. Internationally comparable advantages of our area can be found in tradition, which we wish to study and develop. A respectful, critical and development-oriented approach to tradition, various regional cultures and nature is ranked in structural global mega-trends. The concept of our development projects is to connect traditional knowledge and wisdom with modern technology. Our work is permanently oriented to the stimulation of various forms of creativity and to constant popularization of »science for development« among different social structures.
